Process:
Drilling Starch is a processed carbohydrate typically derived from Native Starch viz, Corn, Potato, Tapioca, Waxy Maize, etc. It is traditionally supplied as cold water swell-able/partially soluble - ether made by a chemical modification or semi-moist/dry thermo-mechanical gelatinization on screw extrudes or by suspension reactions and subsequent drying on drum dryers. Wet reactions carried out in starch suspensions are easy to control and the resulting precisely engineered starches are of high, uniform quality with wider applications.
Applications:
Drilling Starch - M3OM is used for reducing fluid loss in a variety of water-based drilling fluids(API Specification 13A) and has beneficial secondary effects on mud rheology. In drilling wells, a liquid (mud) is pumped into the hole to clean and cool the drill bit and to flush to the surface the drill bit cuttings and suspending the drill cuttings while drilling is paused. The most important physical characteristics of the drilling fluid are the viscosity and the water holding/retaining characteristics.
High-Temperature Stable Drilling Starch:M4OHT are used to provide filtration control and rheology stability in all types of water base drilling fluids. Cross-linking adds physical stability and resistance to the starch & its functional properties are imparted by further modification. Pre-gelatinized cross-linked carboxymethyl starch ether has all the required features. It is resistant to physical stress in the oil well also it will prevent bacterial break down in areas. It is stable up to 135 °C (275 °F) temperature and its cross-linking polymer & non-ionic material especially suited for fluids containing salts or ion sensitive additives.
